LOVE BEYOND BORDERS By Ewoma

Chapter Three   All through that week and the next, Aileen and the rest of the editorial team worked extra hard putting finishing touches to the latest edition of the magazine. It was due for release the following week as it was the usual custom to allow circulation on newsstands, book stores and grocery stores before the actual month started. The online edition also went live on the same day as the paperback copy. This was done so internet subscribers to the magazine could download their copy on that first day too.  Aileen and Emily both worked the hardest when press time arrived, which was usually second to the third week prior to the release of the new edition. That was because both of them also acted in the positions of managing and production editors respectively. On most nights, Aileen got home very late and extremely tired. And on the nights she couldn’t make it home because of supervision of production procedures, she had to make do with the couch in her office.  The online edi

Chapter Two  Aileen got to her office pretty late the next morning. And on her table was a notice of meeting for all editorial staff for 8.45am. She hadn’t seen this notice at the close of work the day before. But if she had come in before eight, she definitely would have known. Aileen kicked herself for coming in late. This meeting, she realized was very crucial as all editors had to discuss upcoming events and plans for the latest edition of the magazine.  As the head writer and editor at large, she had already forwarded all articles for the different columns which included photos to the editor in chief, Amy Saunders for her perusal and approval. At the meeting that morning, they were going to be discussing the final draft and ideas for the cover of the current edition which was already in a dummy template.  Aileen checked her watch, she realized she was already  thirty minutes late. She grabbed her portfolio and headed straight for the conference room where editorial meetings usuall

Chapter One Click! Aileen Jones punched the Twitter icon  on her smart phone and her account ID came on the screen. She put in her password and in a few seconds, she had logged into the network. She scrolled through her tweets and perused everyone of them, only stopping briefly to read with interest the ones which caught her fancy. As she read, she felt inspiration well up in her heart as the messages of faith, love and hope seemed to permeate through the screen of her smart phone. These were daily tweets she received from those she followed on the social media network.  Aileen pondered on the short notes and whispered a silent “Amen”, to everyone of them that spoke directly to her heart . After a short while, she noticed she had received a notification about a new follower.  Curious, Aileen looked up the follower’s ID but didn’t find much. All she discovered was the username: Sparrow and a profile photo of a Sparrow too. Aileen smiled knowingly, and concluded that this was one of tho

SACRIFICE...

Deirdre was discharged from the hospital two days later. Her dad, mum and siblings had all trouped in and out of the ward over the last forty-eight hours. Their excitement knew no bounds at seeing the new born baby. It had been ages since the cry of a baby had been heard. Deirdre’s kid brother who had been present when her labour pains began had been the last baby in the family. She was surprised at all the love and attention she had received since the baby arrived. With the baby in her arms, Deirdre sat with her dad at the back of the chauffeur driven car. She had no excuse to be sad and gloomy! On the contrary, she had every reason to shout for joy. If she cared to admit the plain truth, God in His mercies had caused His Face to shine on her.   When she got to her parents’ home, she laid her baby to rest in the beautiful cot adorned with teddy bears. Deirdre stood for

She was exhausted and felt limp. She had been in labor for the last one and a half hours, after her parents and younger brother had gotten her to the hospital that night at about 9:15 pm, when the contractions had started. She had given birth at exactly 10:55pm that same night. The tiny cry of her baby touched her heart as she strained from the delivery table to look at him. The nurse had turned him upside, and had given him a slight tap on the bottom. “I told you, it was going to be a boy”, Dr. Adams said, smiling at her and getting ready to stitch her up. She had incurred a tear. Her baby was quite
